Since 1995, Pandaw has been exploring the Irrawaddy and Chindwin rivers in Burma, the Mekong in Cambodia and Vietnam, and the Rajang River in Borneo. Designed and furnished as replicas of colonial-era river steamers, these vessels have the highest passenger-to-space ratio available and a high staff-to-guest ratio of 1:2. The experience is more like being asked along on a private yacht party in the 1900’s by the royalty and aristocrats that used to sail aboard her predecessors with the Irrawaddy Flotilla Company.
The air-conditioned staterooms are a spacious 168 sq. ft. on average, and are finished in traditional marine brass, mahogany and teak. There are bathrobes, slippers, and a hair dryer provided for your convenience, as well as bottled water service, again at no additional cost. All cabins on the main and upper decks open onto promenade decks with wicker chairs where many guests choose to spend their days, or above on the spacious sundeck which offers comfortable teak lounge chairs and a full service bar. The atmosphere on board is informal and relaxed without non-essential announcements, or the irritants of larger cruise ships.
Shallow drafts offer the Pandaw fleet the chance to venture and moor where larger ships cannot go; they are masters of inland navigation in challenging waters and are designed to cope with constantly changing river conditions. These vessels provide an incredible cruise experience off the beaten track and a unique perspective on local life.
